Bug Hotel

On Wednesday 20th September Room 13 and 16 along with some other Junior Syndicate students made a Bug Hotel.  We are hoping that this will attract a lot more birds, like the piwakawaka that eat bugs to our school.

Making native bird puppets in Room 15

The students in Room 15 have been having fun making a New Zealand native bird puppet using a paper bag. First, they had to paint the paper bag. Then they could add on wings, eyes, feathers, feet and a beak. Can you guess which native bird they have chosen to make for their puppet?

A new mural for our school.

A lamb at school...

Room 8 wrote this story together.

On Friday morning, something amazing happened!  A very cute, soft lamb came in to see us.  The lamb was called Mazie and Lisa (Leo’s mum) and her friend bought Mazie in.  Mazie was 8 weeks old and had a twin brother.  She tried to nibble on our shoelaces and she could kick and jump at the same time.  She also liked to baaaaaaa a lot and she was happy to let people pat her.  She was very well behaved and she reminded us of the lamb that Lizzie bought in.  We think she might have been a bit scared so we tried to be as quiet as we could. We all loved her.

Our Trip to Zealandia

Room 14 had so much fun visiting Zealandia last week! We have been learning about native birds this term and finding out different ways to keep the birds or bring the birds to our school. We were lucky enough to visit Zealandia where we were able to spot lots of native birds and learn some new facts about them. We saw Tieke, Papango, Kereru, Karuhiruhi, Toutouwai, Piwakawaka, Kaka, Tui and Kakariki. Here are some photos of us exploring Zealandia.

Thank You

We would like to thank Erik and Leo's grandfather, Gerhard Rennwandt, for donating to our school the football shirt Ben Sigmund wore for his last game for Wellington Phoenix FC.

After a bidding war on Trade Me the shirt sold for $655. This money will be used to buy sports equipment for the school. Thanks also to Ben Sigmund and the winning bidder.

NORTHERN ZONE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

NORTHERN ZONE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Yesterday a team of 48 Johnsonville school swimmers competed in the Wellington Primary School Northern Zone Swimming Championships. Everyone did a great job in and around the pool. It was noticeable that Johnsonville School students were the most consistent supporters of their own swimmers, cheering each swimmer on.  If we have the results by Thursday, we will announce these at hui.  Interzone swimming is next week so there is a very quick turnaround.

Orange Day

Orange Day is an annual event, organised by New Zealand Police and Wellington City Council, to draw attention to the amazing voluntary work that student road patrollers from the schools across the Wellington region do, and to reward them for their year-long service.

Our awesome road patrol team joined around 1000 other students on 1 September to march through the streets of the CBD, promoting road safety. Our banner read:

J'ville Kids Rule: Slow Down

Thank you to the forty year 6 students for the work they do on Ironside Road every morning and afternoon.
